Handmade Sterling Silver Blue Prosthetic Glass Eye Pendant, made by Maggie of freedomjewelryusa.
This piece shown is available now to ship. I hand cut the eye and make the setting from using the lost wax jewelry technique.
This particular eye color begins with a gray base blending into gray & ivory filaments creating an unusual hazel/green color along with an amber frame around the Pupil. Fabulous rare iridescence within as shown. Please disregard reflections. Marked with my maker’s mark FREEDOM and Sterling stamped on back. Eye follows movement. Chain not included and used for effect.
Measures 1.50″ vertical X 1.25″ horizontal with a wearable weight of 14.3 grams with substantial bail to take most size chains or cord.
Each eye is a small work of art in the blown glass featured in each eye I set. Photos are designed to show actual colors, these do seem to change with the light, great depth to create excellent character.
History on these glass eye originates from Lauscha, a town in the district of Sonneberg, in Thuringia, Germany. They are archaeological and found recently, buried for 120 years!
Produced from a doll manufacturing company, around 1890; specializing in glass marbles, porcelain dolls and prosthetic glass eyes; these were produced before and during the war, as a replacement for the human eye, very interesting, historical and I feel privileged to set these.
